Gold Sheen Obsidian

Like every member of the Obsidian family, Gold Sheen Obsidian is volcanic glass rather than a true crystal, cooled too quickly to form a mineral lattice. Its shimmer comes from microscopic gas bubbles or mineral inclusions aligned in parallel layers as the glass cooled and hardened, reflecting light back in a way that reads as a metallic golden sheen across the polished surface — a similar underlying principle to the shimmer seen in Labradorite or Tiger's Eye, produced by a different mechanism specific to volcanic glass.

Gold Sheen Obsidian is genuinely less common than plain black or even Rainbow Obsidian, and specimens with a strong, even sheen across the whole surface are prized by collectors specifically for that rarity.

Gold Sheen Obsidian's meaning follows its shimmer directly: strength that shows itself rather than staying hidden, and the confidence to act in a difficult moment rather than freeze or retreat. It's sometimes called the Warrior's Stone for exactly this reason — protection with an edge to it, rather than passive shielding.

At 5–5.5 on the Mohs scale, Gold Sheen Obsidian is moderately durable but can chip or fracture with sharp force, the same as any volcanic glass. It's water-safe for routine cleansing, though avoiding harsh abrasives helps preserve the polish that makes its sheen visible in the first place.
