Meditation, inner truth
Lapis Lazuli + Selenite
Clear the room. Then look inward.
Intention
Meditation, inner truth
Energy focus
Meditation asks for two things that rarely arrive together: a quiet space and something worth looking at once you're in it. Lapis Lazuli and Selenite are paired because they split the job — one supplies the depth, the other the clarity around it.
Lapis Lazuli is the stone of inner truth, traditionally reached for when you want to look honestly at something inside you. Selenite is the stone of clearing and lift, associated with a bright, unclouded space. Together they make a natural meditation pair: a clean room, and a reason to sit in it.
The stones
What each stone brings

Lapis Lazuli
Stone of Wisdom
Turns inward
A deep-blue rock flecked with gold pyrite, mined in Afghanistan for more than 6,000 years and ground into the ultramarine pigment of Renaissance masters. Across cultures it's been the stone of wisdom and truth — reached for by priests and scholars — and its traditional job here is to open inward reflection.

Selenite
The Cleansing Light
Clears and lifts
A pale, luminous gypsum named for the Greek moon, Selenite is traditionally said to clear stagnant energy from a space and to lift whatever spiritual work is happening in it. It's the airy counterpart to Lapis's depth — the clean, bright room the reflection takes place in.

The synergy
How the pairing works
Reflect
Lapis Lazuli
Lapis draws your attention inward, toward the question or feeling that's actually worth sitting with.
Lift
Selenite
Selenite clears the space around that reflection, so it isn't crowded by clutter, noise, or the residue of the day.
Depth with room to breathe
Depth on its own can feel heavy; clarity on its own can feel empty. Paired, the reflection has somewhere clean to land — which is why this is one of the tradition's most natural meditation combinations.
Put it into practice
How to use the pairing
A meditation setup
Place Selenite — a lamp, a slab, or a wand — where you sit, and hold Lapis in your hand or rest it near your brow. It's the simplest way to use the pairing and needs no other preparation.
For journaling
Keep both on your desk while you write. Lapis for the honest question, Selenite for the calm, uncluttered page.
Dry-cleansing your Lapis
Neither stone tolerates water well, so rest the Lapis on a dry Selenite slab overnight — the traditional way to "reset" it without rinsing.
Before a difficult truth
When you need to say — or hear — something honest, sit with both first. Lapis for the truth, Selenite for the calm to deliver it.
Reach for it when
- Daily meditation, especially when your mind feels cluttered
- Journaling or reflecting on a decision that matters
- Preparing for an honest conversation
- Setting up or resetting a quiet corner of your home
Care
Two stones that hate water
Selenite is only 2 on the Mohs scale and dissolves in water — never wet it. Lapis Lazuli is a composite rock at 5–5.5 with calcite that's sensitive to acids and soaking, so it needs a dry cloth too. Because Lapis is harder than Selenite, store them apart. And ask about origin: some "lapis" is dyed or wax-treated, and dyed blue jasper is sometimes sold as "Swiss lapis."
Better skipped
Pairings involving these stones that tend to work against each other:
- Hematite + Selenite — one pulls heavily down, the other pulls just as insistently up, and the tug-of-war cancels both out

Frequently asked questions
Why pair Lapis Lazuli with Selenite?
Traditionally, Lapis Lazuli opens inward reflection and honest self-awareness, while Selenite clears and lifts the space around it. Together they're a classic meditation pairing — depth in a clean, bright space.
How do I cleanse them if neither can get wet?
Use dry methods: a soft cloth, moonlight, or resting the Lapis on a dry Selenite slab. Selenite is water-soluble, and Lapis Lazuli's calcite makes it sensitive to soaking and acids.
Can I keep Lapis Lazuli and Selenite in the same pouch?
It's better not to. Lapis is around 5–5.5 on the Mohs scale and Selenite only 2, so loose together the Lapis will scratch the Selenite. Store them separately.
Is my Lapis Lazuli natural?
It might be treated. Some Lapis is dyed or wax-stabilized, and dyed blue jasper is sometimes sold as "Swiss lapis." Natural Lapis shows blue with white calcite and gold pyrite flecks.
Which Lapis pairing is better for speaking honestly?
Lapis with Sodalite. The Selenite pairing is built for quiet, inward work like meditation and journaling, while Sodalite supports clear, logical communication.
Do I need to meditate to use this pairing?
No. Simply keeping both in a quiet corner of your home is a traditional way to use them, though they suit meditation especially well.
A deep well of truth, and a clear sky to look up into.
