Pyrite needs to stay dry
Citrine is 7 on the Mohs scale and safe to rinse. Pyrite is 6–6.5 and vulnerable to moisture: prolonged humidity can cause "pyrite decay," where the mineral slowly oxidizes and breaks down. Keep it dry, store it away from humid rooms, and clean it with a soft cloth. Citrine is also slightly harder than Pyrite, so store them separately to avoid scratches.
